Donald Bleam, 77, of Auburn, passed away on August 15, 2024 at Aldersgate Village.
He was born on August 31, 1946 to John and Jacqueline (Yotter) Bleam at Topeka, KS.
Don grew up in Topeka. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1964, then served in the Kansas Army National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1969. Don moved to Texas where he attended the University of Texas and earned his BBA Marketing Degree. Upon his graduation he returned to Topeka and was employed by the Fleming Company in marketing. Later in life he worked for Herynk’s Nursery and Green House as a landscape supervisor.
Don always loved being outdoors, working with his hands, and being creative. As his health declined and he was unable to do landscaping he turned to his life long passion for “every thing railroad.” From the time he was a little boy, he had a fascination for trains and the rails. As a result, he was a member of NHRS (National Historic Railway Society, Great Overland Station Topeka Kansas, North American Railcar Operators Association, Midland Railway, Marshall County Railway Historical Society, and Town. As a member of these clubs, he volunteered his services for sponsored events such as mini-train rides for children or being a guide in a museum, and any other things he might be asked to do. Using his creative gift, Don hand made intricate scale models of several local and nearby train depots and gave the model to the depot for display.
Don was a long-time member of Town and Country Christian Church. Don’s faith in the Lord was strong and he did his best to live a servant’s life, always trying to make himself available to serve others in any way he could.
Donald is survived by his brother; Richard (Jayne) Bleam, nephew; Jonathan (Chelsea) Bleam all of Tennessee and step-daughter; Kindra (J.R.) Neal of Fall River, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his father; John Bleam and his mother; Jacqueline Bleam.
