Donald William Bartling, 79, of Topeka, passed away Monday, June 7, 2021.
He was born March 30, 1942, in Hinsdale, IL, the son of Reverend William Lewis and Evelyn Della (Hoger) Bartling. He was a graduate of Walther Lutheran High School in Melrose Park, IL and achieved a Bachelor of Science degree from Walton School of Commerce in Chicago.
Don worked at Goodyear for 18 years and was transferred to Topeka in 1971. He worked for Westar Energy/ONEOK from 1987 to his retirement in 2004.
He was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church for 50 years. He served there in an administrative capacity from 2006–2021. He retired again in April of this year and was recognized for being a tireless and humble servant of God.
A devoted father and grandfather, Don was admired for his work ethic, his integrity, and his avoidance of the spotlight. He loved being outdoors, whether it was fishing, watching one of his grandson's soccer matches, barbequing or doing yardwork, Don was not one to sit still for long.
Don and Gisela enjoyed traveling. He especially liked Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Some of his fondest memories were annual fishing trips and hiking the Grand Canyon.
He was also a Paul Harris Fellow of the West Topeka Rotary Club.
Don married Gisela Lehmann on June 30, 1962 in Forest Park, IL. She survives in Topeka. Other survivors include two daughters, Holly Bartling Robertson of Topeka, Kristin Bartling-Garland, and her husband, David Wood of Sunshine Beach, Australia; two grandsons, Brooks Robertson, of Lawrence, KS; and Barrett Robertson of Topeka; his sister, Renata Ufer of Northlake, IL; his brother, Roger Bartling and his wife, Margo of Scottsdale, AZ and his brother Paul Bartling of Glenview, IL.
A Service of Resurrection will be held on Saturday, June 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, 1716 SW Gage Blvd, Topeka, KS. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
