Donald E. Anders, 80, Topeka, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2006 at a local hospital.
Don was born September 23, 1926 in Topeka, the son of Wilbur E. and Lula M. (Allen) Anders.
Don entered the U.S. Navy prior to completion of High School and served on the aircraft carrier USS Kwajalein in the Pacific. He received his High School diploma from Topeka High School with the graduating class of 2001. He worked as an Electrician for Santa Fe Railroad for 45 years, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 400, and past president of Super Chief Credit Union.
Don married Ester Shafer on December 29, 1946 in Topeka. She died November 12, 1987. Survivors include daughters, Sherry Schmidt and husband, Larry, Roxann Williams and husband, Gregg; son, Niles Anders, all of Topeka; 3 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; and a sister, Betty Couch, Topeka.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Mount Hope Cemetery. Don will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, and family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 NW Rochester Road, Topeka, Kansas 66618.
