Don R. Henderson

Don R. Henderson, 74, of Topeka, died Monday, August 2, 2004 at his residence. He was born on October 4, 1929 in Wichita, Kansas, the son of John S. and Lena B. Calonder Henderson. He was a Marine Corp veteran. He operated the Carpet Center for 15 years. He then became a salesman for Western Chemical before retiring due to illness. He was a lifetime member of the White Lakes Optimist Club where he served in various positions in the club. He was a member of the Gage Park Baptist Church. He married Ethel Sitton in 1953. They were divorced. He married Sharlene A. Twidwell in 1982. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, John R. Henderson of Topeka and Mark A. Henderson of Olathe, Ks., one daughther, Julia L. Henderson of Independence, Ks., a step-son, Scott Twidwell of Topeka, four grandchildren, Mike Henderson, Curt Fried, Sarah Henderson and Kenyon Leopard, four step-grandchildren, Zachary Twidwell, Taryn Beier, Nathan Twidwell and Tiffany Twidwell and one sister, Pauline Irene Green of Medford, Oregon. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua Henderson and nine brothers and sisters. Cremation took place. No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Multiple Sclerosis Society, 5350 S.W. 17th St., Topeka, Ks. 66604. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
