Don K. Fisher, 92, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. He was born August 18, 1920 in Alta Vista, KS, the son of Elmer C. "Dutch" and Grace L. Hesser Fisher.
Don attended schools in Alta Vista and Kansas State University prior to joining the Army Air Corps in 1942. He completed Basic Training in Texas and was then stationed in Mississippi, Alabama, California and the South Pacific. He was discharged in 1946 and re-enlisted in 1947, which later became the Air Force. Don was stationed at Offutt AFB, Richard Gebaur AFB, Iceland and Jacksonville AFB. He retired in 1963 as a Tech Sgt. Don then worked at Sears Automotive where he retired in 1982. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 400, the Disabled American Veterans and the Air Force Sergeant Association.
Don married Ella Lee Quall on October 4, 1947 in Kansas City, MO. They were married for 65 years. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Edye Salmans of Topeka, two granddaughters, Ellarie Siegel and Tayler Salmans, two grandsons, Trey Siegel and Tyler Salmans, all of Topeka, two brothers, Ted Fisher of Topeka and Bill Fisher of Council Grove, KS and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Burial will follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery. Don will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
