Dolores Jean DeWitt, 80 of Topeka, passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born December 30, 1928 in Americus, KS, the daughter of Glen and Julia (Hodgson) Barber. She attended Eskridge High School and was baptized into the Eskridge United Methodist Church. She was employed as a salesperson.
Dolores married Derrel E. DeWitt on November 27, 1946 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on September 8, 1994. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nina K. Roberts. Survivors include her children, Judy McMorris (Jerry) of Meriden, Sheryl Ratcliff (Richard) of Carbondale, and Charlot Walter (Ron) of Topeka; her brother, Bob Barber of Overbrook; her sister, Betty Masters of Moran; 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka. Interment will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. DeWitt will lie in state after 3 p.m., Monday at the funeral home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
