Dixie Lea Liles McKinney, 76, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, June 27, 2010.
She was born January 18, 1934 in Topeka, KS, the daughter of Claude Luther and Donna Belle (Bartley) Liles. She was a graduate of Topeka High School.
Mrs. McKinney was employed as a teacher's aide for Lowe Junior High School, and later served as composition supervisor for the Minden Press Herald in Minden, LA.
Dixie was a member of East Side Baptist Church, Topeka. She served as a Girl Scout Leader in Minden, LA. She enjoyed quilting and was a member of several quilting clubs.
Dixie married Joe E. McKinney on December 1, 1952 in Monroe, LA. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1991. Survivors include her children, Kay Ford, Lafayette, LA, Karen Yost and Donna Caruso, both of Longview, TX and Terri McKinney, Baton Rouge, LA; 8 grandchildren, Paul and Matthew Robichaux, Jennifer Clark, Amanda Burkhalter Daw, Kristin and Allison Yost and Anthony and Joseph Caruso; 2 great-grandchildren, Parker and Breckin Robichaux; and 3 siblings, Delight Siebert, Delbert Liles and Darlene Berry all of Topeka. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers, Darrell, David and Don Liles.
Funeral ceremonies will be 10 a.m., Thursday, July 1, 2010 at the East Side Baptist Church 4425 SE 29th, Topeka, KS 66605. Interment will follow at Topeka Cemetery, Topeka. Mrs. McKinney will lie in state after 3 p.m., Wednesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka where the family receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Side Baptist Church.
