Richard Allen Bixler, 86, of Topeka, passed away of natural causes on Friday, January 28, 2022. Dick was born August 25, 1935, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, to Robert and Ruth (Colby) Bixler. A member of the Wichita East High School Class of 1953, Dick graduated from Wichita University where he met his future bride, Judy Mayer.
Throughout his life, Dick was very active in the Topeka community. He volunteered for many organizations, including the Southwest Optimist Club, Topeka Civic Theatre, Briarwood Swim Club, and was on the board of directors for the First Apartments. He retired from IBM after 30 years, served briefly as an adjunct professor of computer science at Washburn University, and then finished his career at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
Dick's greatest joy was his family. He mastered the art of being a supportive and enthusiastic audience member, attending every event in which his children and then his many grandchildren participated. There was no finer cheerleader, according to those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Judy; his children Rick of Palm Springs, CA, Steve (Gretchen) of Wichita, KS, Amy Kelly (Patrick) of Lawrence, KS, and Christy Kincaid (Joe) of Overland Park, KS; his brother Robert of Jones, OK; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11:00 am Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2021 SW 29th St., Topeka.
