Diana May (Mathies) Hughes, 83, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023.
She was born February 23, 1939, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Martin and Eunice (Wooley) Mathies.
She graduated from Topeka High School in 1957.
Diana owned and operated Nannie's Daycare for the majority of her life.
She played in numerous bands as a drummer.
Diana liked to camp, taking trips to Tennessee with her husband and loved spending time with her family.
Diana married Freddie Joe Hughes on October 2, 1959. He preceded her in death on November 30, 2011.
Survivors include children David (Rhonda) Hughes, Lisa (Joseph) Kirira, Julie (Scott) Eccles, Vicki (Steve) Sepulveda, and Mark (Michele) Hughes; 22 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Freddie; grandson James Meador III and her brother, David.
Diana will lie in state from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023 at Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel 4700 SW 17th St., Topeka, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 a.m., on Friday, January 20, 2023 at the Mount Hope Cemetery & Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery.
