Dewey E. Smith, Sr., 68, of Topeka, passed away, Thursday, November 7, 2002 at his home.
He was born November 8, 1933 at Chico, California the son of James A. and Ruth Naomi (King) Smith. Mr. Smith had resided in Topeka since 1980.
Dewey was a military veteran serving in the United States Army twenty years. He had served in both Korea and Vietnam. Mr. Smith retired from the Army in 1971. Following his military service he was employed at various hospitals in the Los Angeles area.
He was employed twenty two years as a Plant Boiler Operator at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka.
Mr. Smith was a member of Capitol Post #1 American Legion.
He married Shirley Ann Dowd September 11, 1956 at Marysville, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include:

and two granddaughters.
Cremation is planned. Graveside inurnment services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 12, 2002 in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be given to Midland Hospice House, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, Kansas 66606. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
