Derrald L. Tibbits
Derrald L. "Shorty" Tibbits, 72, Topeka, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 at St. Francis Hospital.
He was born July 14, 1933 in Topeka, the son of Earl O. and Marie Peavler Tibbits.
Shorty retired from Kansas Sand & Concrete. He was a 24 year member of the Teamsters Union.
He was a charter member of Topeka Baptist Church.
He married Shirley Bond on June 16, 1983. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Marita Holton, Haysville, Brenda Stein, Topeka; three sons, Dave Tibbits, Belton, MO, Richard Tibbits, Tecumseh, Steven Tibbits, Topeka; two brothers, Donald Tibbits, Topeka, Raymond Tibbits, Meriden; twelve grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be 1:00 pm Friday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mr. Tibbits will lie in state after noon Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 pm.
