DePhayne Young, 85, of Topeka, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2005 at a local care home.
DePhayne was born on July 26, 1920 near Beattie, the older of two children born to Joe and Elmie Miller Young.
She attended a country school near Beattie and then graduated from Summerfield High School. She continued her education at Highland Community College and Kansas State College in Manhattan where she received her certificate for teaching.
DePhayne taught school for seven years before going to work for Southwestern Bell. She retired in 1983 after 37 years of service.
She was a member of the Business Girls League, an Affiliate of the YWCA, and a member of the First United Methodist Church for over fifty years.
Survivors include a brother, Francis Young, Holton; nephews, Steve Young and Doug Young, Topeka, Greg Young, Holton; and step niece, Teresa Rowell, Andover.
A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at the Klasse Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the Holton Cemetery. Miss Young will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 P.M. on Monday.
