Dennis O'Gara, 65, Topeka, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Indian Meadows Nursing Home in Overland Park.
Dennis was born January 13, 1947 in Topeka, the son of Maurice and Anne (Lehenbauer) O'Gara.
He graduated from Topeka High School in 1965 and attended Washburn University.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a navigator for 21 years, retiring in 1992. After retirement, he worked for the State of Kansas.
Dennis married Cecilia Olatan in Topeka on May 22, 1999. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Patrick O'Gara, Topeka; sisters, Elaine O'Gara (Bob Shapiro), Topeka; Joan (Jay) Oyler, Silver Lake; brother, John O'Gara (Janet Sokell), Austin, TX; and brothers and sisters-in-law in the Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2012 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery with military honors. Dennis will lie in state at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday with the rosary recited at 5:30 p.m. followed by visitation until 7:30 p.m.
