Dennis E. Harry, 68, Topeka, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2010 at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born October 2, 1942 in Topeka, the son of Willis and Jeannette Reser, graduated from Topeka High School in 1960, and received a BBA from Washburn University.
Dennis lived most of his life in Topeka, except for about five years spent in Longmont, Colorado. He was in the newspaper industry for all of his working years with the Topeka Capital-Journal and the Longmont Times-Call. His Capital-Journal years were spent in the circulation department.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, and spent many years umpiring baseball games at the Little League, high school, and college levels. His greatest love was his family and following their endeavors. His other interests included Civil War and United Kingdom history and dogs.
He married Sharon K. Eklund on August 11, 1962 in Topeka. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Kevin E. (Stacey) Harry of Topeka; his mother, Jeannette Harry of Topeka; grandchildren, Krystal Lynn Harry and Kristian Joseph Harry, both of Topeka; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Barbara Eklund of Wichita; one niece and one nephew; three dogs, Pugsley, Tucker, and Gracie.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Dennis will lie in state after noon Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
