Demares "Dee" Schlegel, 87, of Topeka, died Friday August 11, 2006 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born September 30, 1918 in Perry, KS, the daughter of Elmer R. and Josephine I. (Cook) Goepfert.
She graduated from Perry High School and moved to Topeka in 1936. She and her husband owned and operated Triangle Printing Company for 33 years, retiring in 1986. She volunteered for numerous organizations in the Topeka community and was an avid reader. She was a KU fan and loved to watch basketball. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, the VFW Womens Auxiliary and the Womens Kansas Day Club. She was also a life member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She married R. Louis Schlegel on October 5, 1942 in Topeka. He preceded her in death in 1986.
Survivors include three nephews, George Blakely of Tallahasee, Fl, Robert Blakely of Long Beach, CA and James Schlegel II of Bella Vista, AR; three nieces, Barbara Kellner of Silver Lake, KS, Linda Piwarski of Perry, KS,Jackie Stitt of Bennington, KS. and two caring friends that were by her side when she was ill, Frances Snodgrass and Kathy Gordon.
Mrs. Schlegel will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Monday August 14 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. The casket will remain closed. Graveside services will be private.
