Delores "Dee" Jean Spencer, 76, of Topeka, passed away Monday, September 28, 2009 peacefully with her family at her side.
She was born December 3, 1932 in Topeka, the daughter of Dwight S. and Emily R. (Welter) Martin. She was a graduate of Topeka High School.
She was employed as a dental assistant for Topeka dental offices of Cook and Cassidy,
Dale Dixon and the V.A. Hospital where she retired after 29 years of service.
She was a member of First Christian Church, Topeka.
Delores married Loren Lowell "Red" Spencer on March 3, 1967 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on October 9, 2000. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Deborah McAtee on December 22, 2002, two brothers, Robert Martin, and Richard "Dick" Martin and a sister, Virginia Moran; and a great-grandson, Zach McAtee. Survivors include two sons, Frank (Barb) Altman of Burlingame, Dave (Cathy) Altman of Silver Lake; a step-son, Len Spencer of Topeka; a brother, Don Martin of Streator, IL; a step-daughter, Becky Carter of Topeka; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Chris, and Megan McAtee, Bailey, Evan, Kyle, and Kelsey Altman; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Spencer was cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m., Thursday, October 1, 2009 at the Mausoleum Chapel at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Inurnment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Care Hospice, 200 SW Frazier Circle, Topeka, KS 66606.
