Delores Benner Hutson, 97, of Topeka, passed away Thursday, November 25, 2021.
She was born December 30, 1923, in Walthill, Nebraska, the daughter of Adron F. and Bertha G. (Fisher) Benner. She graduated from Scotland High School in Scotland, South Dakota and received an associate's degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education from University of Maryland.
Dee began her teaching career in 1952, educating children in numerous schools in the Montgomery County School District in Maryland. She retired from Twin Brooks Elementary in 1977.
She was a member of Community of Christ Church and numerous organizations including, Newcomers, Junquers Travel, and the Maryland Teachers Association.
Delores married Charles P. Hutson on November 24, 1947. He preceded her in death on April 12, 1989. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Beverly Eaton and Gordon Benner.
Survivors include nieces, Linda Allen, Topeka, Kathee Baker, Bethesda, MD, and Ginny Fink, Topeka and nephews, Bill (Nancy) Clark, Evergreen, CO, Mike Clark, Lyons, CO, and Milton Baker, Jr., Bethesda, MD; and special friends, Dick Smith and Kay Laurie, both of Topeka.
Dee loved NASCAR and was an avid sports fan. She also enjoyed playing card games, reading, and traveling. She volunteered her time to help others learn to read.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 12noon, Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the Jellison Chapel at Presbyterian Manor, 4712 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS.
