Della Leona Hetzel Evenson, 83, Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015. She was born January 7, 1932 in Hill City, Kansas, the daughter of Francis (Bud) and Ruth Pauline (Knouf) Hetzel.
She graduated from Salina High School and Clark School of Business. She married Victor Paul Evenson, a U.S. Air Force veteran of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on May 3, 1950 in Salina, Kansas. Being an Air Force wife, she lived in several places: Shreveport, LA; Homestead AFB, FL; K.I. Sawyer AFB, MI; Burns Flat, OK; Riverside, CA and in February 1969, they moved to Topeka.
Della worked for Fleming, Co., GMD and retired after 26 years as a Human Resources Payroll Clerk. She was a member of Southwest Christian Church since September 1969. She was a member of Strato-Jet Square Dance Club for 25 years.
In 1997, she moved to be with her son, Roger in Yelm, WA. He lived on a horse ranch, where she enjoyed trail riding and working with the horses. She was a member of Nisqually Backcountry Horsemen Club. She returned to Topeka in October 2003, where she lived with her daughter, Kay.
She is survived by her three sons, Robert Paul (Cindy) Evenson, Emporia; Roger Dale (Barbara) Evenson, Yelm, WA and Michael Allen (Derenda) Evenson, Topeka; daughter, Kay Marie (Mark) Kemp, Topeka; three sisters, Frances N. White, Holton; Ruth E. McGuire, Mukilteo, WA and Robie Harries, WaKeeney, KS; 11 grandchildren, Kelly, Patrick, Jonathan, Victoria, Neil, Shannon, Nolan, Lynn, Timothy, Diane, and David and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, Doyle and grandson, Joseph.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Fellowship Bible Church. Burial will follow at West Lawn Memorial Gardens.
She will lie in state from 12:00 noon until 5:00 p.m., Wednesday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.
