Debra "Debbie" Lynn Grondahl, 74, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away surrounded by her family on January 29, 2024.
She was born on September 8, 1949, the daughter of Richard and Doris (Dryden) Dodson in Topeka, Kansas. She graduated from Topeka West High School in 1967.
Debbie met the love of her life, Orvin Grondahl, Jr., while he was stationed in Topeka with the Air Force. They were married on August 8, 1967. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he and Debbie welcomed two children, Jennifer and Brian. They settled in Topeka.
Debbie worked in the food service industry for many years. She managed McDonalds, Hardee's and worked for Panera. She was known to many by her infectious smile and her kindness to all that came into the restaurants.
She and Orvin were long time, faithful members to First Lutheran Church of Topeka. They became members in the 1970's and enjoyed helping with many activities within the church.
Debbie will be remembered as a lady who was kind to all and never complained about her life. Her laugh was infectious. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren with her love. She had a passion for reading romance novels and different home design magazines. Debbie was a fashionista and enjoyed learning the new trends. Also in her spare time, she enjoyed sewing.
Survivors include her children, Jennifer Grondahl and Brian (Angela) Grondahl; grandsons, Isaac, Landon and Mason Grondahl; and one sister, Julie (Tim) Bervert. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orvin; her parents and sister, Dena Bullard.
Debbie's family will greet friends and relatives from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Penwell Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66604. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 at 11:00am Penwell Gabel Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place following the service at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66604. In her memory, contributions may be made to the choice of the donor.
