Dean E. Fleming, 93, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2014.
He was born September 16, 1921, in Topeka, the son of George and Stella (Nelson) Fleming. He was a graduate of Topeka High and a WWII veteran of the United States Air Force 98th Bomb Group.
Dean worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Topeka for 29 years until his retirement. He was a jazz saxophonist all his life and formed the Dean Fleming Orchestra. He was also a member of the American Federation of Musicians Local #36.
Dean married Anna May Carver on March 23, 1952. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2000.
Survivors include sons, Kevin D. Fleming and Terry D. (wife Julie A.) Fleming; and a granddaughter, Nicole (husband Shawn) Mattox.
He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Samuel Dean Fleming; brother, Jack Fleming; and sisters, Jean Elizabeth Hupp and Mary Jane Thompson.
A graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Mount Hope Cemetery, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
