David Allen Ross, a loving father, devoted grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 70. Born on November 12, 1952, in El Dorado, Kansas, David was the beloved son of Beul Burns Ross and Alta Bernice Peppiatt, both of whom have since passed away.
Growing up in Kansas, David shared his childhood with his sister, Marcia (Calvin) Bartlett of Wichita, and his brothers, Robert Ross of McPherson, and the late Terry Ross. His family grew to include step-parents Wilma Ross of Omaha and the late Richard Peppiatt, as well as step-brother Ron Massek of Omaha. Together, they formed a close-knit family that provided a lifetime of support and love.
David is survived by his two children, Robert (Lisa) Ross of Topeka, Kansas, and Jennifer (Bill) Willey, also of Topeka, Kansas. His legacy lives on through his seven cherished grandchildren Caden, Maddox, Brennen, Preston, and Ella Ross, alongside Katelyn and Avery Willey, and numerous nieces and nephews whose lives were enriched by his presence and affection.
Throughout his life, David demonstrated unwavering love and generosity towards all who knew him. He was a doting father and grandfather, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a word of encouragement. Professionally, David carved out an impressive career in the insurance industry, spanning over 40 years. In the 1990s, he transitioned into a successful lobbyist, making a positive impact on state and federal legislation for six years. David took pride in his work and embraced the opportunity to shape policies that would benefit his community.
Outside of work, David had a passion for the University of Kansas Jayhawks. He cheered on his beloved team with enthusiasm. Additionally, he loved live music and cherished many moments spent at the lake with his family.
David was a devout follower of Jesus Christ and shared that every morning he would "bless God for the day." His faith comforted him in his final days as his health wavered. He looked forward to "breaking through to the other side" where he was eager to reunite with loved ones who had gone ahead.
