David Lee Purvis, 76, of Topeka, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2020.
He was born June 23, 1944, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the son of Wilbur and Edith (Mitchell) Purvis. He graduated from Richmond High School. He continued his education throughout his life and was known as a lifetime student. He attended classes at both Emporia State University and Washburn University.
He joined the United States Navy in the 60's. He served aboard the USS Enterprise; the first Nuclear powered ship during the Vietnam War.
When he got out of the Navy he started his own organ repair business; G & B Organ Repair. He especially enjoyed working on church organs.
He worked various jobs during his lifetime. He enjoyed camping, reading and tinkering with electronics; he could make anything work again without any leftover pieces.
David married Gladys L. Lehner, they later divorced. Other survivors include his sons, Joseph Purvis and Lawrence "Larry" Purvis; siblings, Kathy L. Weaver, Mary (Tom) Jones, Laura (Steve) Burnett, Alice Purvis, Evonne (Jim) Joyal, and Louis John (Andrea) Purvis and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Cremation is planned and private family services will be held at a later date.
