David P. Dunphy, 76, of Galveston, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at a Topeka hospital while visiting friends and family for Thanksgiving.
David was born October 27, 1935 in Houston, Texas, the son of James and Erna (Treude) Dunphy. He spent his formative years in Houston graduating from St. Thomas High School and the University of Houston, where he earned a degree in business and was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. David went on to work for Fleming Foods Corporation in advertising and became their Director of Sales Promotions worldwide and was known as a consummate event planner booking celebrities such as Bob Hope and Barbara Mandrell during his 41 year tenure there. His boundless creative energy and enthusiasm was a key asset throughout his career while complimenting his skills as an accomplished writer until his eventual retirement in 1997.
David married Nichi Murphy on February 22, 1974 in Topeka, Kansas and throughout his life was known for his ability to connect with people with his personal magnetism, sharp wit, and infectious humor. The world was boundless for David who loved traveling in all its forms, eventually settling with Nichi in Galveston, Texas. His love for beach living and the oceans splendor was fully realized there over a span of more than 28 years and was complimented by frequent cruises to all parts of the world.
David was a loving and affectionate father and devoted husband and is survived by his wife Nichi; sons David Dunphy and wife Madhuri of Los Angeles, CA, Mark Dunphy of Topeka, KS; daughter Diane Larsen and husband Scott of Topeka, KS; granddaughters Sherry, Jessica, Nikhita and Gabrielle. David's only brother Warren passed away in May of this year.
A celebration of life for this man who fully embraced life and was a bright star who will be sorely missed will be held at the Galveston Country club on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at 1:00 pm.
