David Eugene Ohse

May 30, 1933 — May 12, 2021

David Eugene Ohse, 87, passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at his home in West Plains, Missouri.

He was born May 30, 1933 in St. Joseph, Missouri to O. Fred and Leona B. (Roehrs) Ohse. He graduated from high school in Topeka, KS and then attended Kansas State University graduating in 1955 with a degree in Business Administration. While at K-State he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. It is there he met and married Beverly Miller. He served in the Navy before returning home to act as president of Ohse Meat Company in Topeka. Bev and David welcomed three children: Brent, Fred and Beth. In the 1970s after the sale of Ohse Meats, David bought a small business, Southwest Publishing which he grew to what is now one of the largest mailing businesses in the United States. David always said he loved solving problems and he took great pride in the successful business he created with Southwest Publishing.

In addition to his work, David loved the outdoors. He was an avid golfer, tennis player, skier, and loved to hunt and fish. He bought a second home on Lake Taneycomo near Branson, Missouri so he could pursue his love of trout fishing. It is in Branson that he met and married (2012) Kimberly Schnacker Ohse.

David is survived by his wife, Kimberly; his children, Brent Ohse Menninger (Victoria), Fred Ohse (Julie), Beth Ohse Johnson (Dan); and two grandsons, Wyatt and Henry Ohse. Other survivors include his step-children, Felicia (Trip), Leona (Brandon), Jessica (Steve), Phillip (Heather), Wayne (Katie) and their many grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held in West Plains, Missouri on May 16, 2021. A graveside service will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka.
