David E. Moran

October 10, 1948 — November 16, 2019

David Earl Moran left his family on Saturday, November 16, 2019 and is now free of any earthly suffering. David was born on October 10, 1948 at Stormont-Vail Hospital, the son of Kenneth Wesley Moran and Delyte Dae Mellies Moran of Topeka.

David grew up in Topeka attending local schools. Upon graduating from Topeka West High School, he enlisted in the Marine Corp and was sent to Vietnam. There, he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He left the Marines but still felt the pull to serve his country. He enlisted in the Army Reserve and served in the first Iraq war, Desert Storm. David had a profound love of his country and needed to serve, protect and defend it. He was proud to say that he was a soldier and he attended many military functions and events. He retired from the Reserves in 2004.

David also worked for the State of Kansas, Department of Transportation, retiring from there in 2003. He was a lifelong resident to Topeka.

David was also a true lover of animals especially cats who seemed to know where to find him. He never turned a cat away; he always took them in, cared for them and they never left. His best buddy was a black lab, named Spook.

He was predeceased by his parents. He leaves a brother, Brian Lee Moran and his wife, Barbara of Florida, a nephew, Kevin Michael Moran and his wife, Alina, also of Florida and his grandniece, Alexandra Moran and his best friends and caregivers, Karen and Scott Kiefat whom he depended on and shared many of life's moments.

He was loved by his family and friends and will be truly missed for his smile, laugh and nickname, Pepsi. Rest in peace, David, you will always be in our hearts.
