David M. Toland, 69, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, June 11, 2016.
He was born March 29, 1947, in Provo, Utah, the son of Marion H. and Mary Catherine (Blake) Toland. He was a 1966 graduate of Hutchinson High School and attended Hutchinson Community College and Utah Valley Community College, Orem, Utah.
David was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka, retiring in 2001.
He was an active member and served as a Bishop, High Counselor and Executive Secretary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Topeka. He volunteered for VITA providing tax services and providing support at Midland Hospice. He also provided support and answered questions for those who were newly diagnosed with cancer at the Cancer Center at St. Francis Hospital.
David married Patricia A. "Pat" Mundy on July 23, 1966 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She survives. Other survivors include six children, Michael D. (Jenifer) Toland, Stansbury Park, UT, Matthew (Jennifer) Toland, Katy, TX, Erin (Van) Wilkinson, Morgan, UT, Christopher Toland, Topeka, Julie Toland, Topeka and Adam (Tammi) Toland, Topeka; 13 grandchildren, Conner, Caitlin, Bailey, Maizie, Sierra, Seth, Ethan, Donovin, Caulder, Jace, Makayla, Piper and Aiden; and three brothers, Tim (Dee) Toland, Bentonville, AR, John (Debby) Toland, Mounds, OK and Mark Toland, Wisconsin.
David enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golf, woodworking, telling jokes and was a "Jack of all trades". He was dedicated to his church and was always willing to help a friend in need.
A funeral ceremony will be 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 17, 2016, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2401 SW Kingsrow Rd., Topeka 66614. David will lie in state after 3 pm, Thursday, at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka, where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.
A graveside ceremony will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John, KS.
