David M. Neiswanger

David Mills Neiswanger, 1001 SW 29th Street, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at a local retirement community. He was 82 years old.
The son of David and Isabel Mills Neiswanger, he was born in Topeka on December 3, 1920, and was a life long resident of Topeka. He attended Randolph and Boswell schools. A 1938 graduate of Topeka High School, he later received a bachelors degree in 1942 from Washburn University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and other campus organizations.
Mr. Neiswanger was a World War 11 veteran, serving as an officer in the United States Navy and participating in the D-Day naval invasion of Normandy, France, 1944. Following his discharge from the U.S. Navy, he joined his father in 1946 in the Neiswanger Company, Inc., a Topeka. real estate and insurance firm founded in 1903 by his grandfather, W. A. Neiswanger. He later succeeded his father in the company and became its president in 1961. He continued in that position with Neiswanger Company until his retirement in 1986.
David M. Neiswanger served in volunteer and leadership roles for a number of local, state, and national civic and professional organizations. He was a strong supporter of Topeka. For more than 40 years, he had been a volunteer trustee of Menninger. Mr. Neiswanger additionally volunteered his service on community boards including Washburn Endowment Association, Mount Hope Cemetery, Family Service and Guidance Center, and other local organizations. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Cathedral and had served on the Church's vestry.
Mr. Neiswanger served as president of the Topeka Insurance Association, president of both the Topeka and the Kansas Associations of Realtors, as well as a regional vice president of the National Association of Realtors. He earned professional business designations in the areas of commercial real estate property management and commercial investment property.
David M. Neiswanger was married to Mary Bellamy Neiswanger of Columbus, Ohio, on May 24, 1947, in Topeka. She died on May 7, 1985.
Survivors include sons John Mills Neiswanger of Rahway, NJ, and William Adams Neiswanger, daughter-in-law Nancy Lynn Moody Neiswanger, and granddaughter Sara Ann Neiswanger, all of Topeka. He is survived by a sister, Isabel Neiswanger Hughes, of Barrington, RI, and was predeceased by a second sister, Nancy Neiswanger Jones, of Topeka.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM on Friday, May 30, 2003, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral Church, 701 SW 8th Street, with reception immediately following in the Common Room of the Cathedral. Private family burial services will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery. The family requests no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to
