David Jesse Lloyd, 81, passed away January 24, 2009. He was born April 18, 1927, in Sacramento, California, to Mary Trout. At the age of 17, he joined the Navy and served our country during WWII. Shortly after leaving the Navy, he joined the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He retired from the US Air Force after having served at Forbes Air Force base in Topeka. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, the Disabled American Veterans and was a Free Mason. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. He and his wife, Alyce, owned and operated "Alyce's Twist," a local restaurant. His compassion and dedication to care for those less fortunate led to his many years of community service. Near and dear to his heart were his fellow American Veterans, the Spanish community and any person in need. David always put the needs of others in front of his own. During his illness over the last four years, his family and caregivers were comforted by his never ending sense of humor and his passion for life. He will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his son, Scotty, brother, Ray Campa; sisters, Francis Felix and Tootsie Rhodes.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Alyce Lloyd of Tecumseh; sons, David Lee Lloyd (Susie) of Ohio; Mark Henault (Rita) of Georgia, Greg Henault (Diane) of Topeka and Gary Henault (Kamela) of Topeka; nephew, Bobby Campa and family of Topeka; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children, along with many other family members.
David will lie in state after 2 p.m. tomorrow at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel where family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 29, at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Burial will follow at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
