David K. "Dave" Askins, 62 , of Topeka passed away Nov. 4 2006 at his home with his family at his bedside.
He was born Nov. 17, 1943 in Lompoc, CA in Camp Cooke, the son of John Kenneth and Bernetta Vossman Askins.
Dave graduated from St. John's Catholic High School in 1961. After attending Kansas State University he entered the U.S. Army. During his enlistment he was stationed in Vicenza, Italy for four years. He was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon his return to the States, he attended Fort Hays State University. He was subsequently employed by WebCo., the U.S. Postal Service in Topeka and at Lowe's.
He married Barbara Potter on July 22, 1989 in Easton, Kan. She survives. He was preceded in death by his father, John Kenneth Askins, his son, Deric Askins and his brother in law, Timothy Boudewyns.
He is survived by his mother, Bernetta Askins of Beloit, his sons Chad Askins, Rob Askins and his wife Katie; daughter in law Tina Askins and significant other Jerry Monosmith; granddaughters, ShyAnn and ChapLynn Askins; grandsons, Jakob and Kaleb Askins, all of Topeka; his sister, Linda Boudewyns, Portsmouth, RI and brother, Greg Askins and his wife Peggy, Hays, KS. and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Askins will lie in state after 1:00 pm, Wednesday, Nov. 8 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 pm that evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am, Thursday, Nov. 9 at Assumption Church, 204 SW. 8th St., with burial to follow in Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
