David "Brian" Garretson, 58, of Topeka, passed away Monday, November 14, 2011, after an accident.
Husband, Father, Son, Brother, Uncle, Friend, but most of all, Brian was a wonderful man.
Brian was born July 25, 1953, in Topeka, to two loving parents, the late David Garretson and Helen (Miller) Garretson. He was united in marriage to Cathy (Summers) Garretson on September 16, 1989. Brian worked for Kaw Valley Electric for several years and later went on to work for KPL/Westar. He retired from Westar after 30 years of service.
Brian was a master of woodworking and wood carving. He was an adventurous man who enjoyed hunting, hang gliding, snow skiing, scuba diving, and flying. Brian loved the outdoors and working on projects in his saw mill. He was a life time member of West Side Christian Church.
He is survived by his mother, Helen; wife, Cathy; daughters, Cassie (Greg) Garretson-Dunkel, Los Angeles, CA; Nicole Garretson, Topeka; Natalie Garretson, of the home; and Michele (Matt) Bregel, De Soto; son, Steve Manfield, Overland Park; sisters, Gayle Garretson, Topeka; and Marti (Denny) Bass, Topeka; brother, Phil (Lynna) Garretson, Topeka; brother-in-law, Steve (Sandy) Summers, Topeka; three grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011, at West Side Christian Church, 432 SW Lindenwood Ave., Topeka. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 17, 2011, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave., Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Salvation Army, West Side Christian Church, or Rossville Christian Church.
