David W. Benson
Mr. David W. Benson, 84, of Topeka passed away Thursday, November 16, 2006 at Manor Care Nursing Center.
He was born August 21, 1922 in Garden City, KS, the son of Hubby and Della (Payne) Benson. Mr. Benson resided in Topeka most of his life. He had attended Washburn University.
He retired as a purchasing officer in 1991 after serving 30 years with Bank IV. David was widely known for his 50 years of serving at the North Star Supper Club.
He was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church, Crime Stoppers, American Diabetes Association, and the Downtown Optimists Club, where he was a board member and past president. He was a volunteer for St Francis Health Center.
He married Aline Mae Hickman on January 31, 1942. They divorced in 1948. They had three sons, Richard Benson, who preceded him in death, and is survived by William Benson, Topeka, and Donald Benson, Chula Vista, CA.
He married Ada Williams August 30th, 1954. She survives. Other survivors include step-daughters Reba Robinson, Claremont, CA and Arlene Butler, Bloomfield Hills, MI, sister Helen Hunn, Topeka, brothers Victor Benson, Dayton, OH, Charles Banks, Topeka, Walter Banks Jr., Emporia, KS, 13 Grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at the Antioch Baptist Church, at 11:00am Wednesday, November 22, 2006. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Mr. Benson will lie in state after 1:00pm Tuesday at the Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where family will greet friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00pm that evening.
