David Dallam, 66, of Topeka, succumbed to Leukemia and Progressive Supranuculear Palsy (PSP) on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, following a 9-year battle to survive.
David was born September 1, 1942 to Bruce and Lillie Mae Dallam in Chicago, IL. David was a 1965 graduate of Park College, Parkville, MO and a 1967 graduate of New York University. He was employed by the State of Kansas, Division of Budget for 33 years. He later worked for the Department of Health and Environment as a part-time consultant. David was active in the Presbyterian Church, initially at John Knox and later, Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder.
David wed Mary Lou Schneider in June of 1965. They divorced in 1985. He married Cheryl Daniels in March of 1987.
Survivors include his loving wife, Cheryl, his daughters; Christie Dallam (Ed) Martinez of Los Flores, CA, Karen (Alan) Schut of Gambrills, MD, and Diana Daniels (David Wetzl) of Sacramento, CA, a son; Darin (Michelle) Daniels of Topeka, five grandchildren; Kasey, Emily, Sam, Jacob, and Allison, a great-grandson, Kaeden, a brother, Roger (Benie) Dallam of Topeka.
Mr. Dallam will lie in state after 2:00 pm on Thursday, May 7th, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, where the family will receive friends between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 8th, 10:30 am, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Mike Kunner officiating. Interment will follow at Westlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or Midland Hospice.
