Darrell Wayne Goodnow, 76, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023.
He was born October 10, 1947, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Clyde and Betty (Oldham) Goodnow. He attended Silver Lake High School and graduated in 1965.
Darrell married Lynda Ann Hook on July 22, 1966 in Silver Lake, KS. They welcomed two daughters, Elisa and Hadley.
He had the mind of an inventor. He opened New Eagle Communications in 1985 and specialized in creating tactical communications equipment. His company would eventually be renamed Atlantic Signal LLC. Darrell invented the bone conduction headset used by special forces military and tactical SWAT teams throughout the world. He retired in 2014.
Darrell enjoyed at cooking. He loved a good adventure and would often tinker with items to see how they worked. He was handyman at heart and was a great carpenter. His story telling will be missed by many. He enjoyed watching the Chiefs and Jayhawks. He also would often watch history shows and knew a lot of trivia.
He leaves behind his two daughters, Elisa (Larry, Jr.) Lowrey and Hadley Goodnow; his grandchildren, Kendra Lowrey, Mason Frederick, Brooke Frederick, Vince Frederick and Kira Lowrey; two great-grandchildren, Bentley Lowrey and Paisley Lowrey; his mother, Betty Goodnow and siblings, Denny Goodnow and Janice Goodnow. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lynda Ann Goodnow; father, Clyde E. Goodnow and granddaughter, Kayla Lowrey.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Thursday, November 9, 2023 at Mount Hope Funeral Chapel, 4700 SW 17th Street, Topeka, KS 66604. Entombment will follow the service.
