OBITUARY DARRELL WILLIAM CHRISTENSEN
Darrell W. Christensen, 75, died Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Presbyterian Manor after a long battle with Alzheimer's/ Lewy Body Dementia.
He was born February 25, 1931, Orleans, NE to Holger and Emma Noren Christensen. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Raymond (LaVerne); Wayne (Irene) (June); Lawrence; and Virgil; sisters, Mildred Wessels (Bill); Doris Steenis Smith (Lyle Steenis) (Wayne Smith); sister-in-law Anne Christensen; brother-in-law, Marvin Kammerer, nephew, Earl Christensen, two infant siblings and three infant great grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Wesley (Elma), Orleans, NE, Roy, Edison, NE; Donald (Jean), Alma, NE, and sister Arlene Kammerer, Republican City, NE, and other relatives.
He graduated from Long Island, Kansas High School in 1948. He farmed with his father for several years. On June 5, 1955, he was united in marriage with June Walker at Alma and he continued farming. He worked for the Farmers Coop Elevator in Minden and Morton Buildings in Minden until 1973 and transferred to Holton, KS, as manager and salesman. The family moved to Topeka in 1983. He sold insurance for several companies. After retirement he worked 11 years for Dillard's. He was a member of Crestview UMC, past member of the Administrative Board, and a member of the Holton Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, June, of the home, children: Kevin (Cherrie) of KS City, MO; Kim (Casey) {Ron} Starbuck of KS City, KS; Lisa (Jim) Ray of Chapel Hill, NC; Lori (Bill) Gatchell of Topeka, all of whom survive. He is also survived by grandchildren Bill, Stephanie and Elizabeth Tudor; Chelle Morris; Jason (Kristen), Matthew (Rochelle), Amber, Ryan, and Tyler Christensen; Alex and Sydney Ray; and Jake and Jacy Gatchell; great grandchildren, Garrett, Karlie, Ethan, Austin, Emily, Caleb, Dylan, Hannah, Grant and Kyle.
He will lie in sate at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel after 2 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 7 with visitation from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.. Services will be held on Wednesday, November 8, at 1:30 p.m. at Crestview UMC with burial at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.
