Daniel Mark Campbell

May 31, 1956 — February 23, 2025

Carbondale

Daniel Mark Campbell, fondly known as Dan, was born on May 31, 1956, in Muncie, Indiana. His journey came to a peaceful close on February 23, 2025, at Stormont Vail Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and service that will never be forgotten.

Dan's was deeply intertwined with his commitment to service, having joined the Marine Corps in 1974. He dedicated over two decades to this honorable path and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1996. His pride in his military service remained steadfast throughout his life. He often remarked that he didn't "used to be a Marine, but he would always be a Marine." Following his retirement from the Marines, Dan embraced a new chapter in local law enforcement. Eventually he became a devoted truck driver with Ruan and US Xpress until he found fulfillment in retirement in April 2020.

Those who were fortunate enough to know Dan remember his warm heart and infectious laughter. He had a unique talent for bringing smiles to people's faces and was known for his quick wit and mischievous spirit. He made it his mission not only to help others but also to touch lives through countless random acts of kindness, like stopping to assist someone in need. His selflessness extended even to his last moments as he donated his liver, saving the life of a stranger.

One of Dan's greatest joys was the time spent with his beloved wife, Stacy. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, riding their Harley across the country and embracing every opportunity to explore. In 2017, they purchased 10 acres of land that they lovingly named their "Piece of Peace." Together, they created their home, pouring love into every corner of their shared space. Along with working on their property, they cherished quiet moments spent fishing on their boat at local lakes, where their spirits blended seamlessly with nature. Dan's second favorite place to be was at gym working out. Even at the age of 68 he worked out 3-4 times a week. Dan cherished his family dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father; Robert Campbell, mother; Edith Buck, and stepfather; Conrad Buck.

He is survived by his loving wife; Stacy, son; Bob (Jen) Campbell, and their children; Conrad, William, Mykala, Alyssa (Ryan) Christine, daughter; Sandrina (Trea) Stutzman, daughter; Alex Cain, daughter; Briana (Sam) Glennon, and their son; Brooks, daughter; Cheyenne (Casey) Haney, and their children; Chloe and Steven, and sister; Sherri Gipson.

As the family prepares to honor Dan’s remarkable life, they invite all who knew him to join them for visitation on March 15, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 1:00 PM at the Penwell-Gabel - Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604. In keeping with Dan’s spirit, they encourage attendees to dress comfortably, in jeans and Harley wear, as he was not one to dress up unnecessarily.

Dan’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever treasure the laughter he brought and the kindness he shared. His legacy will continue to inspire those who knew him to spread joy and embrace life fully, just as he did.
