Dallas Pittenger

Dallas Dale Pittenger, 80, passed away on Friday, March 17, 2006, surrounded by his family.

Dallas was born June 2, 1925 in Netawaka, to Ray and Nellie Gustafson Pittenger.

He spent his youth in Sabetha, and graduated from Sabetha High School. After serving in the US Navy, Dallas went on to graduate from the University of Kansas in 1949 with a degree in Physical Education. While at KU, he had the privilege of serving as the student manager of the 1948 KU football team, which played in the Orange Bowl Championship game. After KU, Dallas coached football in Blue Rapids. He later joined the FBI as an agent in Washington DC and New York, but left the agency to return to the Midwest to raise his family. After coaching in Coldwater, Dallas joined Capitol Federal Savings, retiring as First Vice President after a 30+ year career with them.

He was active in the KU "K" Club, KU Alumni, Shriners and other community/business organizations. Retirement found Dallas with more time to pursue his love of golf and bird dogs. He judged many field trials and won several competitions with dogs he had trained. Dallas was very sensitive to nature and the outdoors and was always happiest running dogs or on the golf course.

Dallas was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Lois Lee Reed. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons and spouses Knute and Diane (Baldwin, KS), Sandy and Pam (Raleigh, NC); step-daughters and spouses, Diane and Craig Martin (Pasadena, CA), Connie and Tom Nolte (Lenexa, KS); grandchildren: Scott, Brandon, Brock, Brett, Jake, and Kasey Pittenger, Brooke and Kate Nolte; brother and sister-in-law Ron and Diane Pittenger (San Antonio, TX); several cousins, nieces and nephews, and many friends who will all miss him and his great wit.

Special thanks to Midland Hospice nurse, Peggy Snook, for her special care and attention.
