Dale L. Smith, 86, of Topeka passed away Sunday, March 5 at a Topeka hospital.
He was born August 26, 1919 in Fort Scott, Kansas, the son of Willis M. and Evelyn Burkhart Smith.
Mr. Smith entered the Army in December, 1941 and served in Egypt until 1945. He reenlisted in early1946 and continued to serve in the Army Air Corps and later in the Air Force, retiring in August, 1962.
He then went to work for the State of Kansas Dept. of Corrections, retiring in 1982 after 20 years of service.
He was a member of Golden Rule Lodge # 90 A.F & A.M., and the Topeka Scottish Rite Bodies.
He married Marilouise Young on June 16, 1946 in Fort Scott, KS. She survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Other survivors include three sons; Michael Smith and his wife Joyce, Jonathan Smith and his wife Lorrie, all of Topeka, Patrick Smith and his wife Lorraine of Ft. Worth, TX; six grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Cremation is planned. Private family inurnment will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery.
