Dale Rhone

Dale E. Rhone, 92, Topeka, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 at Rossville Nursing Home.

Dale was born in Hurdsfield, ND on Jan. 15, 1916, the son of Lee and Maude (Grover) Rhone.

He served in Europe with the US Army during WWII from 1942-1945 in the 90th Division Artillery receiving the Silver Star.

Dale married Judith Lorraine (Luthro) on Jan. 25, 1944. She preceded him in death on Sept. 16, 1992.

Dale worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a Signalman retiring after 30 years of service.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Moose Lodge, American Legion and Veteran's of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include two daughters, Pat (Ron) Michna of Shoreview, MN and Sandra Akerstrom of Hoyt, KS; three sons, Greg (Nancy), Doug (Gina) and Don (Janine), all of Topeka; two brothers, Darrel of AZ and Beryl of ND and one sister, Melba Livingston of ND; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Dale Rhone.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, Feb. 22, 2008 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Graveside committal services will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia, KS. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post #1980 and American Legion Post #5 of Emporia. He will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Thurs. where family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
