Dale G. Briman, 85, lifelong Topekan, died Saturday, November 22, 2008, at Brewster Place in Topeka. He was born November 18, 1923, the son of Morris and Rose Briman. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and his two older brothers, Raymond (1965) and Bernie (2000). Dale graduated Topeka High School in 1942 at which time he joined the U.S. Army Air Force and served our country in World War II from 1942 to 1945.
Upon returning from the war, Dale joined the family business, Briman's Leading Jewelers, with his father, Morris, and brother, Bernie. He married Joan Walsh in 1953. He is survived by his wife, Joan, his two sons, Steve (wife Derie) and Rob (wife Carol); four grandchildren, Caitlin, Max, Mandy and Russell; and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Corbin.
He and his brother Bernie built a successful jewelry business in Topeka for over 50 years. He loved all aspects of the jewelry business, from the selection of diamonds and other gems, to the close relationships he had with his many customers. Dale was a kind and generous man who never knew a stranger.
Dale was a good community citizen, serving on the boards of numerous organizations. He was one of the founding members of Downtown Topeka, Inc in 1964. He also served on the boards of directors of the Topeka Performing Arts Center, Top of the Tower Club, Sertoma Club, and Shawnee Country Club. He was a member of Temple Beth Sholom in Topeka.
Dale had many passions in life. He loved convertibles, dogs, golf, electronics and boating. Dale owned convertibles continuously for over 40 years. He was an avid golfer. He was always interested in new electronic technology and was an early user of personal computers, including the Commodore Amiga 1000.
Cremation is planned. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, November 25 at Penwell-Gabel Midtown Chapel, 1321 SW 10th St. in Topeka. A reception will immediately follow the service at the Brewster East community room, located on the Brewster Place Campus at 900 SW 31st St in Topeka.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Brewster Place Foundation, designated to the Benevolent Care Fund, 1205 SW 29th St., Topeka, KS, 66611, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
