Dale B. Mazachek, Major, USAF (Ret), 82, passed away peacefully at Midland Care Hospice on March 20, 2016.
Dale was born October 27, 1933, the only child of John and Lucile Mazachek in Lemon, South Dakota. He and his family left the family farm to move to Scio, Oregon, where his family owned a Chevrolet Repair and Service Station. He graduated from Scio High School and attended Oregon State University graduating with a degree in Production Engineering in 1956. He immediately joined the Air Force and entered pilot training at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. He met his wife Delilah Mae Schilling in Enid while she was working at Champlin Petroleum Company. Within months of meeting each other, Dale and Delilah were married August 17, 1957 at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Enid. They immediately began their life journey around the world with the Air Force.
Dale served our country as a pilot for 20 years including flying the C-130 in various missions during the Vietnam War where he was a part of Air Rescue operations rescuing downed pilots. He received numerous medals for his service the most meaningful to Dale was the Distinguished Flying Cross Award in 1970. He loved flying around the world. During his military service, the family lived in California, South Carolina, Scotland, Spain, and Alabama. He graduated with a masters degree in Industrial Engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1964.
Dale and Delilah completed military service where it began in Enid, Oklahoma, at Vance Air Force Base. They moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1980 where he worked for the Air Force as a civilian engineer at Lockheed-Martin Company until 1998. Dale and Delilah moved to Granbury, Texas, in 1999 to enjoy their retirement years. After spending many years in Texas, they recently moved to Topeka, Kansas to be closer to family.
Dale was a committed husband, father, and papa. He devoted his life to serving his country and loving and raising his family. He loved to work in the yard and especially enjoyed working on his roses. He spent many hours taking and cataloging photos of all the family trips and memories from the many places they lived. He loved computers and technology and continued to stay current throughout his life. His favorite hobbies were reading, listening to music, especially romantic classical, and recreational target shooting. He was an avid supporter of Boy Scouts and was active as an adult leader in the Order of the Arrow.
Dale's wife, Delilah, passed away just a few months before, in January 2016. He is survived by his children, Carol Reily of Monument, CO; Keith Mazachek (JuliAnn) of Topeka, KS; Patti Kastens (Larry) of Roswell, GA; and 8 grandchildren.
