Dennis "Mike" Micheal Renfro, 63, of Silver Lake, KS, passed away February 18, 2013. Mike was born on August 30, 1949, in Topeka, KS, to Duane & Daryle Renfro, Sr., who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Hook) Renfro; his son Mike Renfro & wife Megan & their sons, Brogan, Brody & Ben; his daughter Annette Fieger & her husband Darin & their children Joe, Olivia & Madeline; his brother Duane Renfro, Jr.; his nephew Kevin Renfro & his wife Lynette & their sons Cameron & Cody; his niece Shelley Lane & her husband Kenny & their daughters Ashlyn & Kayla all of Silver Lake. His nephews Ben, Tony & Cliff Leiker Jr. all reside out of state. Also out of state is Mike's surviving aunt, Mary Jo (Renfro) Garbarino, her husband, Roy, & their family who live in Portland, Oregon.
In his younger days, Mike was quite a runner, placing 2nd in the Junior Olympics in the 100 yard dash. After graduating from Topeka High School in 1967, he went on to work for the State of Kansas & remained a state employee for his more than 40 year career. In 2011, at the end of his career, he was working for the Department of Labor in the IT department.
Mike spent most of his time following his grandchildren & great-nephews & nieces to sporting events & school activities. Additionally, Mike was a member of the Topeka Gem & Mineral Society & considered himself a "Rock Hound". He was a friend of the Silver Lake Library and a participant in Silver Lake United Methodist Church activities. He kept a watchful eye on the stock market, enjoyed reading about U.S. History, & was a big fan of the Silver Lake Eagles & Kansas Jayhawks.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Avenue, Topeka. Interment will follow at Silver Lake Cemetery, Silver Lake. Visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Silver Lake Public Library, 203 Railroad St., P.O. Box 248, Silver Lake, KS 66539.
