Creta Ann Bowles was born Creta Ann Ebeling on August 16, 1930 to Edwin and Laura Ebeling in Atwood, Kansas, and died October 30, 2008 at home in Topeka, Kansas with her family by her side.
As a child, Creta moved with her family to Clay Center, Kansas and graduated from Concordia High School in the class of 1948. She attended MacMurray Women's College in Jacksonville, Illinois.
She married Buddy Bowles on September 18, 1949, and lived 13 years on the family farm in Atwood, where she was a housewife and mother to three children. They moved to Lawrence in 1962, where they lived ten years, and eventually to Topeka, where they lived for over 30 years.
Creta was a member of the Atwood Radiant Chapter of Eastern Star #229, and served in 1961 as Worthy Matron and also as Grand Page to the State of Kansas. She retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in Topeka in 1992 and traveled by motor home with her husband Buddy to many states in the US.
Creta was preceded in death by her husband Buddy Bowles, brothers Ernest Ebeling and Willard H. Ebeling. Survivors include son Steve Bowles and wife Gail of Kansas City, daughter Judi Wolfe and husband Richard of Lawrence, and daughter Lana Stagner and husband Murray of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren Heather Likes and husband Carter of Olathe, Tara Wolfe and partner AJ Stolfus of Olympia, Washington, Laura Wolfe and husband Jeremy Hess of Lawrence, Chris Bowles and wife Becky of Liberty, Missouri, Shauna Stagner of Grapevine, Texas, and three great-grandchildren.
At her request, Creta was cremated and no services will be held. The family will hold inurnment privately. Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice of Topeka or a charity of the donor's choice, sent in care of Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel, 1321 SW 10th Ave. Topeka, KS 66604.
