Craig E. McCoy, 78, of Topeka, passed away Monday March 11th, 2024. He was born June 20th, 1945 in Fairfield, California, the son of Edward and Virginia (Piercy) McCoy.
Craig graduated from Topeka West High School and Washburn University with a bachelor's degree in business and accounting. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in Vietnam.
Craig started his career in accounting but soon realized he did not want to spend his life behind a 10-key adding machine. He began painting homes and then started his residential construction business which lasted his lifetime.
In the 1970's Craig coached a girls' softball team at Ken Berry. Their team's name was "Streaker's". He volunteered and built a playhouse as a funder for CASA.
Craig enjoyed being involved in wrestling ventures with his sons Mike and Matt.
He was a past President and board member of The Topeka Home Builders Association. He was a member of Topeka Country Club where he enjoyed meeting his golf buddies weekly. He hated golf.
On May 31, 1968, Craig married Cathy Crites in Topeka, Kansas. They were married 55 years last May. She survives at home. Other survivors include his son Matt McCoy, two grandsons Drysten and Cash, all of Lawrence, Kansas. His brother, Gary McCoy (Trudie) Gatlinburg, Tennessee also survives.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Craig McCoy.
A celebration of Craig's life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Topeka Country Club. Please dress casual.
