Cora Anna Fitzjohn Durst passed away at Stormont Vail Hospital on Tuesday, September 7th, 2004. Cora Ann was born at Monett, Missouri, daughter of John & Nola Fitzjohn. After graduating from Monett High School, she moved to Springfield, Missouri where she worked as a private secretary to Ed Bibxy, the editor of The Springfield News & Leader. On June 4, 1937 she was married at Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield, Missouri to Robert Dickerson Durst, Sr., an attorney who practiced law for more than 50 years, primarily in Greene County. They were married for 50 years. Shortly before World War II, her husband was called into the US Army, during which time they lived in Germany, Japan, and numerous areas in the United States.
She is preceded in death by her husband Colonel Robert D. Durst, Sr. in 1988, and a son Michael Anthony Durst in 1968. She is survived by a son Robert D. Durst, Jr., MD, two grandchildren Larry Dean Durst and Shawna Leigh Martin, and three great grandchildren Shaun Michael Martin, Kaitlyn Nicole Maritn and Erich Philip Durst.
Funeral services will be at 9:00 a.m., Monday, September 13, 2004 at Christ Episcopal Church in Springfield, Missouri. Burial will follow in Hazelwood Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
Mrs. Durst will lie in state after 2:00 p.m., Friday, Sept. 10, 2004 at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel Topeka, KS.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12, 2004 at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield.
