Constance Joan "Connie" Jones, 81, of Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at Midland Hospice House in Topeka. She was born August 26, 1937 in Beloit, Kansas, the daughter of Everett Elmer and Anna Marie (Hart) Smith.
Connie attended numerous schools in Kansas and Iowa before graduating from Sabetha High School in 1955. She was employed by Victory Life Insurance Company, the Office of the State Treasurer, Richman Gordman Department Store and St. Francis Hospital where she retired in 1999 due to health reasons. She later volunteered at St. Francis until her health no longer permitted.
Connie was an accomplished musician. She began to play the piano at a young age and later played the saxophone in a dance band. She continued to play the piano and after retiring, she entertained the residents at Drury Place / Arbor Court Retirement Apartments as a volunteer. She later also volunteered at Atria Hearthstone.
Connie married John Achten in November, 1955 and gave birth to six children. Connie and John farmed near Wetmore, Kansas. They later moved to Topeka and divorced in 1976. Connie married Stanley L. Jones in 1981. He survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Kimberlee Kellerhouse of Topeka, Darcy Achten of Richland Hills, Texas and Kelly (Brandon) Eakes of Topeka, two sons, David (Laura) Achten of Olathe, Kansas and Gregory (Jenny) Achten of San Jose, California, five grandchildren, Stephanie (Dutch) Redmon, Paul Davis, Matthias Achten, Corbin Eakes and Logan Eakes, one step-grandson, Gregory Kellerhouse and four great-grandchildren, one sister, Nancy (Darryl) Brown of Richardson, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.
Connie was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Donald Achten and son-in-law, James Davis.
In addition to her volunteer work, Connie loved to spend time with family and friends. She very much enjoyed reading and playing the piano at home. While her health permitted, she enjoyed traveling and was able to travel to Ireland in 2000.
Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at Saint Margaret's Episcopal Church. Private inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
