Constance Gloria Davidson, 79, of Topeka, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Stormont Vail Health Center, after a bravely fought battle against breast cancer.
Gloria was born August 5, 1926, in Los Angeles, CA, to Retta and Orville Gibson. She grew up and went thru school in Wellington, KS, with her mother and her stepfather, Harold "Pat" Fetters, and where she was known as Gloria Fetters. Gloria graduated from the University of Wichita with a Bachelor of Music Education degree and from Kansas State University with a Master of Science degree.
Gloria married Forrest E. Davidson in 1948. They have five children. Gloria taught Music and Learning Disabilities in Topeka: USD 501 and USD 437; and in Salina.
Gloria sang wherever she was: from lead soprano roles in operas, Topeka Symphony Chorus, Salina Chorale, Shawnee Chorale, and every church of which she was a member. She was affiliated with, and served on local, district and state leadership roles for: KFMC (Kansas Federated Music Clubs), Salina Treble Clef Club, Salina Chorale, Topeka Music Study Club, Topeka Civic Music Club, Topeka Symphony Chorus, Topeka Symphony League, Mu Phi Epsilon, Topeka Nautilus Club, and Topeka Minerva Club. Her hobbies included: music, sewing, upholstery, gardening and grandchildren.
Gloria is survived by her husband, Forrest E. Davidson; her children: Debbi Pierce of Sacramento, CA; Rick & Connie Davidson of Shawnee, KS; Kathy & Pete Letch of Topeka; Jay & Val Davidson of Overland Park, KS; Steve & Erin Davidson of Exeter, RI; her ten grandchildren; and her sister, Patsy Seal of Tulsa, OK.
A Celebration Service will be held in her memory on Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Countryside United Methodist Church at 3221 SW Burlingame Rd in Topeka. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, or Countryside United Methodist Church. Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
