Condie Gene Erwin, 82, of Topeka, passed away on March 3, 2025 at Presbyterian Manor.
He was born on September 5, 1942 to Archie and Julia "Dolly" (Knight) Erwin in Topeka, Kansas.
Condie worked as an Engineer Technician for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 27 years. Prior to that he drove a route for Cain's Coffee, worked at the YMCA and served 8 years in the United States Air Force.
On September 22, 1990 he married Betty June (Shaffer) Erwin. Condie and Betty lived in Topeka, Kansas. They met square-dancing and enjoyed music of all kinds even attending the National Square-dance Convention in Memphis, Tn. They traveled extensively including trips to Israel, Italy, England, Denmark, Scotland, Nova Scotia, Costa Rica, Jamaica and others as well as many trips within the states. Condie ran 6 full marathons with Betty cheering him on from the finish line. At home they enjoyed their flower gardens, backyard birdwatching and spending time with family including cousins dinners.
Condie is survived by his loving wife; Betty, brothers; Harold Erwin and Jack (Brenda) Erwin, step-daughters; Linda Trendel and Lori (Wyatt) Bartlow, step-son; Mark (Chris) Chambers, 3 grandchildren; Travis (Lanie) Trendel, Carrie (Brandon) Hines, Dyani Chambers and 7 great-grandchildren; Kylie, Andrew, Adam and Paige Trendel, Katie and Easton Hines and Judah Cowell as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Julia "Dolly" Erwin, sisters; Betty Helmick and Patty Beason, and brothers Larry and Francis Erwin.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 13, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00pm, at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, 1:00 pm, also at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 1321 SW 10th Ave, Topeka, Kansas 66604, with Wyatt Bartlow, officiating.
A private family graveside service is planned at the Lyndon Cemetery .
