Colleen M. (LeGer) Schmidt, 96, of Topeka, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021.
She was born October 14, 1925, in Williamstown, Kansas, the daughter of George and Mabel (Hudson) LeGer. She attended Oskaloosa High School and graduated in 1943.
Colleen was employed by Topeka Bank & Trust as a teller for many years. After retirement, she volunteered as a receptionist at the Topeka Rescue Mission and volunteered with the county elections.
She was a member of Highland Park United Methodist Church since 1953. She served on many church committees including the UMW and the IHS Sunday School. Colleen also was a Girl Scout Leader and a past member of the Eastern Star.
Colleen loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren and enjoyed celebrating the holidays and special birthdays. She loved hosting sleepovers at her house for the grandchildren. Colleen was a big fan of KU Basketball.
Colleen married Fred Roy Schmidt on August 1, 1953 in Baxter Springs, KS. He preceded her in death on September 15, 1973.
Survivors include her daughters, Sara Grisell, Anita Ewing, and Amy (Terry) Davis; grandchildren, Tonya (Pat) Crawford, Maranda Davis, Vince (Kelly) Grisell, Taylor (Caroline) Ewing, Lyndsay Davis, Billye Ewing, Tanner (Erin) Davis, and Alana Grisell; and fourteen great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by parents; her brother, Keith LeGer; and four great- grandchildren.
Colleen's family would like to give a special thanks to the staff at Tanglewood Nursing Home and St. Croix Hospice for their care and compassion.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at the Highland Park United Methodist Church, 2914 SE Michigan, Topeka, KS 66605. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church 2914 S.E. Michigan Ave., Topeka, KS 66605.
