Col. Francisj. Domingo

Col. Francis J. Domingo, 84, of Topeka, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2005 at a Topeka hospital. He was born on August 3, 1920 in Topeka, the son of Faustino J. and Gladys M. Barton Domingo. After graduating from Topeka High School in 1938, he obtained a civil engineering degree from the University of Kansas in 1942. While attending the University of Kansas, he competed in Big Six tennis as a member of the varsity tennis team. Following college, he joined the US Army and served in WWII. He remained in the Army reserves until his retirement with the rank of Colonel in 1980, having served actively again during the Korean War. He was employed as a civil engineer for Harrington & Cortelyou in Kansas City, MO and then for the Kansas Department of Transportation where he retired. He was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, a member of the MOWW, the University of Kansas Alumni Association and the K-Club, the American Society of Civil Engineers, Tau Beta Pi and Sigma Tau Honorary Engineering Fraternities and the Theta Tau Engineering Fraternity. On September 25, 1948, he married Eurlene Keller in Topeka. She prececed him in death on December 24, 1982. He married Carolyn Kay Vath on October 6, 1984 in Topeka. She died on January 14, 2002. Survivors include one son, David R. Domingo of Topeka and one grandson, Daniel J. Domingo of Lawrence. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery where military honors will be presented by a burial detail from Fort Riley. Mr. Domingo will lie in state after noon Sunday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday.
