Col. Albin "Lee" Lundquist (Ret.), 95, Topeka, passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Topeka Presbyterian Manor.

Lee was born March 20, 1919 in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Albin O. and Anna J. (Johnson) Lundquist. His family moved to Topeka when Lee was nine months old. He attended Topeka schools and graduated from Topeka High School in 1937. While attending Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas, he was drafted in the U.S. Army on August 25, 1941. He was released from active duty October 26, 1945, serving in the 56th Signal Battalion at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He joined the Kansas Army National Guard in 1946 and was selected for full-time duty in 1956 where he served until his retirement in 1976 as the Plans, Operations and Training Officer at the grade of Colonel. He graduated from the Command and General Staff Course, Infantry Officer Career Course, Civil Disturbances Orientation Course, Senior Officer Preventative Maintenance Course and numerous other service schools in the areas of Radiological, Civil Defense Planning and Industry/Business Emergency Planning. Among his decorations and awards are the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with five devices, World War II Victory Medal, WWII, Army Occupation Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two devices, Kansas Defense Service Ribbon with three devices and other service ribbons.

Lee was active with Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the board of directors for the Topeka Lutheran Home as president and vice-president. He was a member of Orient Lodge #51 A.F. & A.M., The Topeka Consistory of Scottish Rite, Arab Shrine Temple, Arab Shrine Mounted Patrol (past director), Royal Order of Jesters, National Sojourners Chapter #128 of Topeka, Heroes of '76 and Shawnee County Sheriff Mounted Posse. He was a life member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Guard Association of US and Kanas and holds memberships in the Military Officer Association of American (MOAA), Military Order of World Wars (MOWW) and the Bethany Alumni Association.

Lee married Karen E. Wilson on April 24, 1952 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Topeka. She preceded him in death August 14, 2009.

He is survived by many cousins.

Visitation will begin at 10 am on Friday, January 23 at Trinity Lutheran Church with services beginning 11 am. Burial with Military and Masonic services will follow at the Penwell-Gabel Cemetery.

Lee will lie in state from 8 am until 5 pm on Thursday at Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, 725 SW Buchanan, Topeka, Kansas 66606.
